Cutting Down your Energy Costs This Summer

by | Jul 9, 2020 | Uncategorized

With a record summer heat in the forecast and an economic downturn predicted, it’s never been more important to save a few dollars. Let’s face it, most of us can’t function without air conditioning in the summer, but it doesn’t have to break the bank to keep you cool. Here are a few things you can do at home to lower your bill:

Window Treatments

Installing high quality window treatments, blinds, or curtains can make a world of difference in the temperature of a room; especially in rooms that are east or west facing.

Be Stingy with the AC, Use a Fan

If possible, keep your AC turned off or on a low setting. Substitute for a powerful fan to circulate the air in your home. This method is most effective at night when external temperatures are cooler.

Swap Your Light Bulbs

Inefficient lightbulbs are a way of the past (i.e. incandescent & halogen bulbs). LED bulbs produce light without also giving off heat, therefore not adding to your already warm home.

Might Be Time for a New Roof

If your roof is on the older side, it may be absorbing more sunlight rather reflecting it. This then leads to an overheating of your home. Energy-efficient roofs have a high solar reflectance, meaning the solar rays are bounced off of your home rather than absorbed, leading to an overall heating of the interior of your home from the outside in.
